Our Manchester United Bocce committee met last Tuesday and elected our first officers for 2018. Vince dePalmer will be president, Judith Carter is secretary, Jody Ledford is treasurer, Ruth Pacelli is vice president. A date was set to resurface the lower court for May 19 at 9 am. Steve, ‘with the level eye’, and Barry, will be available to lead the project. Lots of help will be needed to transport stone to steve and provide enthusiastic encouragement. It was also confirmed that Tevis Fuels will donate the funds to provide a port-a-pot with a sink and flush at each tournament.
A plan to invite new and interested players to come to the courts with other bocce members, featuring cheese and wine or water, to play and learn the rules, was set for June 14. This is an opportunity for those that always wondered, can bring a friend or family member to learn the fun without any pressure. It should be noted that the courts are always available, except the week of tournaments, for anyone to practice.
We also decided to have a party for players who played in 2018 tournaments and the september 2017 tournament, on a date in september or october 2018, to be announced.
As always, we are looking for prizes for our contests, and sponsors for teams. Contact any of the officers if you can help with this or need more information.
Our first tournament is scheduled for June 2 and will be held to support the rebuilding fund that was needed to repair the extensive damage from age, that threatened the ceiling of the Trinity Church in Manchester. The patrons of the church will serve refreshments including homemade baked goods and hotdogs.
We already have three new teams registered and as always, expect to see the many teams that have always played in the past. Download a copy of the registration form for 2018 from this message and forward it to the address on the form. Be sure to write the check to the Community Foundation of Carroll County and send it to Bocce, 3017 Walnut street, Manchester, 21102. Don’t forget to include a team name. Write Clearly!
This message and the form, along with loads of photos, including the “‘Bocce Game In The Rain Video”, is on our Facebook at Manchester United Bocce.
Make your plans now to register a team. With the interest we have now, there may be a cut off. At least get your forms and money to Bocce by the Saturday before the tournament date.
